community service protest with the Vailsburg Youth Center. The Brothers tutored

children from grades 1 to 12 in various subjects. Often times we were
accompanied to this project by other SHU students. Most of them were students
wanting to find out if it was true that all we did was step and have parties. One
year when there were a rash of robberies and sexual assaults around campus we
organized a Omega “Buddy” program where we would escort students black and
white mostly women to their cars or dorms. As a result, the assaults around the
campus declined. During the 80’s we formed a step team that consisted of us,
brothers from Tau Mu, and Kappa Eta calling ourselves “The North Jersey All-
Stars”. We won a few trophies using this moniker. We also maintained a very
healthy relationship with The Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta, Delta Zeta Chapter;
doing various community service projects with them as well as a party in the
Student Center during the spring of 87 that was memorable. Some of the

“downs” were a few of us were suspended or put on social probation as a result
of the race riots during the Spring of 86. We also got into a little bit of trouble
with our National Office because of various infractions. We also tended to butt
heads with a various Chapter Advisors which were, Leroy Wilson (’80 Eta
Pi/Omega Chapter), Leroy Thomas (Iota Gamma, early 70s), Erwin Ponder (’86
Eta Pi/Omega Chapter).
